Potato & Oats Poriyal

Ingredients
Boiled & cubed potato-1 big
Dry roasted & cooked broken oats-1/3 cup
Salt to taste
Turmeric powder-1/4tsp
Coriander powder-1/2tsp
Red chilly powder-3/4tsp
Crushed garlic-4
Curry & coriander leaves-little
Chopped onion-1/4
Tempering
Oil-3tsp
Mustard-1tsp
Urad & channa dhal-each 1/2tsp
Fennel seeds-1tsp
Broken red chillies-3
Method
Heat oil in a pan temper it.Fry onion,curry leaves & garlic till light brown.Add all the dry ingredients & fry a bit.Add the potato & oats & in low heat fry for 5 minutes.Garnish it with coriander leaves & serve it as a side dish for roti or rice.

Oats & Vazhlai Poo(Banana Flower) Usili / Vazhlai Poo Paruppu Usili recipe/ Paruppu Usili Recipe
Oats Vazhlaipoo Usili
Ingredients ground to a semi coarse paste
Soaked channa dal-1/3 cup
Red chillies-5
Salt to taste
(Steam the above mixture for 5 to 7 minutes.Cool & crumble it)
Other ingredients
Cleaned & finely chopped Vazhlaipoo/banana flower-1
Chopped onion-1tbsp
Curry leaves-little
Turmeric powder-little
Dry roasted & cooked oats-1/3 cup
Tempering
Oil-3tsp
Fennel seeds-1tsp
Mustard-1tsp
Jeera/cumin-1/4tsp
Urad dal-1tsp
Hing-a pinch
Method
Heat oil in a pan temper it.Fry onion,turmeric powder,salt,vazhlai poo & curry leaves till slightly cooked.
Sprinkle very little water & in low flame cook till done.
Add the crumbled dal mixture & cooked oats,toss well till everything is mixed well.
Garnish with coriander leaves & serve it with rice as a side dish.

Oats & Tomato Soup

Ingredients
Oats-6tsp
Chopped large tomato-1
Chopped onion-3tsp
Chopped celery-3tsp
Grated garlic-1
Dry oregano-1/2tsp
Salt & Pepper to taste
Olive oil-1tsp
Stock/broth-1 & 1/2 cup
(I used 100% fat free chicken broth)
Water-1 cup
Method
Heat oil in a pan saute onion,garlic & tomato.Add celery,oregano & oats,fry a bit.Pour water & stock & cook till oats are done.Before serving add the seasoning & serve it hot.

Oats & Besan Ponganalu

Ingredients
Broken Oats-1/3 cup
Besan-1/2 cup
Semolina-1tbsp
Grated carrot-1/2
Chopped onion-3tsp
Chopped green chillies-1
Chopped coriander leaves-1tsp
Kastoori methi-1tsp
Salt to taste
Jeera-1/2 tsp
Baking soda-a pinch
Oil-to fry
Method
Soak oats in little water for 15 minutes.If using quick oats then skip soaking.Mix all above ingredients together.Pour water & make a semi thick batter.Heat a paniyaram pan,pour some oil in each hole.Pour a ladle full of batter & cook it till brown on both sides.Serve it hot with any chutney.

Oats & Tapioca Puttu

Ingredients
Rolled oats-1/2 cup
Shredded tapioca-2 cups
Salt to taste
Jeera-1tsp
Grated coconut-15tsp
(I used dessicated coconut)
Method
In a bowl mix tapioca,salt,jeera & oats.Leave it for 10 minutes.Now put 2tsp of coconut then some tapioca mixture in the puttu maker.Repeat this process till you reach the top.Close the lid & steam it for at least 5 minutes or till steam comes out from the holes on top.Serve it hot with any gravy.
Variation:For fussy kids serve it with some sugar/brown sugar & ghee.

Oats Pesarattu

Ingredients
Rolled oats-1 cup
Whole green moongh dhal-2 cups
Long brown rice-a hand full
Ginger-a small piece
Green chillies-2
Salt to taste
Jeera-1tsp
Oil-to make dosas
Chopped onions to fill inside
Method
Soak moongh dhal,rice,green chillies & ginger for 6 hrs.Soak oats separately for 30 minutes.Grind everything together to a smooth paste.Mix in salt & jeera.Cook it like dosa on hot tawa.Before removing place a teaspoon of chopped onion,fold & serve it hot with any chutney.

Oats & Pinto Beans Biriyani

Ingredients
Oats-1 cup
(A bit finer than steel cut oats)
Cooked pinto beans-1 & 1/2 cup
Sliced onions-1/2
Chopped tomato-1
Slit green chillies-3
Mint leaves-a hand full
Ginger & Garlic paste-1/2 tsp
Meal maker-a hand full
(soak in hot water for 10 minutes & squeezed out the water)
Red chilly powder-1/2tsp
Salt to taste
Garam or my biriyani masala-1/4tsp
Coconut milk-3tsp(optional)
Temper
Oil-2tsp
Ghee-1tsp
Jeera-1/8tsp,Shajeera-1/8tsp,Cinnamon-a small bit,Cloves-2,Cardamom-2,Star anise-1,Bay leaf-1
Method
Dry roast the oats for 2 minutes & keep it aside.Heat oil & ghee in a pan temper it.Fry onion,mint,ginger & garlic paste,green chillies & tomato to light brown.Add all the dry powders & fry a bit.Add the beans,oats,meal maker ,coconut milk & water.Cook it till done.Serve it hot with raita.

Oats & Lentils Kozhukattai

Ingredients ground coarse
Soaked American lentils-1 cup
Salt to taste
Red chillies-4
Other ingredients
Quick oats-1 & 3/4 cup
(dry roast it slightly)
Tempering
Oil-2tsp
Mustard-1/2tsp,Urad dhal-1/2tsp,Channa dhal-1tsp
Chopped onion-1tbsp
Chopped green chillies-1
Grated ginger-1/2 tsp
Curry leaves-little
Hing-1/4tsp
Method
Heat oil in a pan temper it.Fry the onion,green chillies,ginger & curry leaves till light brown.Switch off the gas ,now add the oats & ground paste.Sprinkle very little water & make balls.Grease idly plates & steam it till cooked.Serve it hot with any chutney.
Note:Instead of making balls you can also just crumble & steam it & serve it like uppuma.For extra taste you can also add grated coconut.You can use any other lentils of your choice.

Oats Apple Crunch



Ingredients
Apple-1
(seeds removed & cut into 8 thick slices)
Pancake syrup/Maple Syrup or Sugar syrup-1/3 cup
(I used Pancake syrup)
Instant coffee powder-1/4tsp
Cinnamon powder-less than 1/4tsp
Quick oats-1/2 cup
Butter cut into small bits-8
Method
Mix pancake syrup,cinnamon & coffee powder together.Give a boil & keep it aside.Dip each apple slices both sides & roll it in oats.Arrange it on a baking tray.Place a bit of butter or brush it with melted butter on top of each slice & bake it at 300 deg C for 15 minutes or till slightly crisp.

Oats & Buttermilk Pancakes

Ingredients
Powdered quick Oats-3/4 cup
Buttermilk-1 cup
Flour-1/4 cup
Salt -1/4tsp
Sugar-1/2tsp
Baking soda-1/2tsp
Egg-1
Oil to spray the pan
Method
Combine all ingredients together,make sure there are no lumps.Heat a non stick pan spray oil.Pour a ladle of batter ,slightly spread it.Cover & cook it in medium flame till done(do not turn).Serve it with maple syrup.

Oats & Banana Muffin


Ingredients
Quick Oats (Make a coarse powder)-1 cup
Maida-1 cup
Whole wheat flour-1/2 cup
Sugar-1/2 cup
Baking powder-2tsp
Baking soda-1tsp
Salt -1/2tsp
Egg-1
Milk-3/4 cup
Vegetable oil-1/3 cup
Vanilla essence-1/2tsp
Mashed banana-1big

Method
Mix all dry ingredients together in a bowl .Beat oil,egg ,milk & banana till it combines.Now mix the dry ingredients.Mix it well.Pre. heat oven to 375 deg.C ,pour a ladle of batter in the non stick muffin tins(not till the brim) .Bake it for 20 minutes or till done.

Oats Adai


Ingredients
Quick Oats-3/4 cup
Aval(Flattened Brown Rice)-1/4 cup
Yellow moongh dhal-1/4 cup
(with skin)
Masoor dhal-1/4 cup
Channa dhal-1/2 cup
Red chillies-2
Ginger-1/4''
Salt to taste
Hing-1/4tsp
Chopped onion,Curry leaves-little(Optional)
Oil-required amount.
Method
Soak the dhals ,ginger & red chillies for 1 hr.Soak aval & oats separately for 30 minutes.Grind everything to a coarse consistency.Add remaining ingredients & mix it well.Pour a ladle of batter on a tawa( a bit thick) pour oil & cook it both sides till crisp & done.Serve it hot with any chutney.

Mixed Flour & Vallarai Dosa

Ingredients
Powdered Oats-1 cup
Rice flour-1 cup
Ragi flour -1/2 cup
Besan-1/4 cup
Wheat flour-1/2 cup
Salt to taste
Jeera-1tsp
Chilly powder-1tsp
Chopped Vallarai Keerai-1/2 cup
Method
Mix all above ingredients together.Pour water & dilute to a dosa batter consistency.Heat a tawa pour a ladle of batter & make dosa. Pour oil & cook on both sides till done.Serve it with any chutney

Oats & Wheat Rawa Idly


Ingredients
Steel cut oats powdered-1 & 1/4 cup
Wheat rawa powdered-1 cup
Salt to taste
Curd-1 & 1/2 cup
Baking soda-1/2tsp
Water to dilute
Ingredients for tempering
Oil-2tsp
Mustard-1/2tsp
Channa dhal-1tsp
Urad dhal-1tsp
Jeera-1/2tsp
Onion-1/4(optional)
Green chillies-1
Curry leaves -little
Ginger chopped-1/4''
Method
Dry roast oats & wheat rawa till its just hot,cool it.Heat oil in a pan temper it.Pour it in the oats mixture.Add the soda ,water & curd.Mix it well till there is no lumps.Rest it for 10 minutes.Dilute the batter if it becomes thick.Grease idly plates pour a ladle of batter & steam it till done.Serve it with my Onion Coriander chutney.
Tips
Mine was not that soft because i used very little of baking soda.You can increase the quantity if you like.You can also add vegetables to make it more healthy.

Oats Bonda


Ingredients
Quick Oats powdered-1/2 cup
Urad dhal-1/2 cup
Salt to taste
Crushed pepper -1& 1/2tsp
Coconut bits-1/2tbsp
Baking soda-a pinch
Oil to deep fry
Method
Soak urad dhal for 30 minutes & grind to a smooth paste.Add above ingredients & mix well.Rest for 5 minutes & deep fry bondas in oil.Serve it with my Tomato mint chutney.

Oats Pongal

Ingredients
Quick oats-1 cup
Yellow Moongh dhal-1/2cup
Salt to taste
Ginger grated-1/2''
Turmeric powder-1/4tsp
Water-3 & 1/2cup
For Tempering
Ghee-2tbsp
Oil-2tsp
Cashew nuts chopped-10
Pepper-1tsp
Jeera-1 & 1/4tsp
(I coarsely powdered jeera & pepper in mixi)
Curry leaves-little
Chopped green chillies-1
Method
Dry roast oats & dhal in a pressure cooker till you get a nice smell.Add water & other ingredient,cook it till done.Heat oil & ghee in a pan temper it with above ingredients.Pour it on the cooked pongal,mix & serve.

Oats Chutney


Ingredients
Oats roasted dry-3tbsp
Red chillies-2
Masoor dhal-1tsp
Uraddhal-1/2tsp
Coriander seeds-1/2tsp
Hing-1/4tsp
salt to taste
Coconut roasted brown-1tsp
Tempering

Oil-1tsp
Mustard-1/2tsp
Jeera-1/4tsp
Uraddhal-1/4tsp
Method
Dry roast all above ingredients till light brown.Cool & grind it to a smooth paste.Tempering it if you want.This can be served with rice or tiffins.

Oats Kuzhi Paniyaram





Ingredients
Oats (powder it in mixi) -1 cup
Rice flour-1/2cup
Ragi flour-1/4 cup
Rawa(semolina dry roasted)-1/4cup
Curd-2tbsp
Salt to taste
Jeera-1tsp
onion chopped-1/4
Green chilles chopped-1
Curry & Corriander leaves-little
Oil to cook
Method
Mix all above ingredients to a thick smooth batter.Rest it for 1o minutes.Pour oil in the holes of the paniyaram pan.Pour a laddle full ,cook it both sides till done.Serve it with my Bottle gourd chutney.
Tips
This is a very quick & healthy tiffin.



Oats Burfi


Hey Hurray!!!!!!!!!!!! I have completed 100 posts in my Cookery site.To celebrate this I am making Oats Burfi today. Try it & enjoy !!


Ingredients
Quick oats (powder it in mixi))-2 cups
Milkmaid tin (14 oz)-1
Milk-3tsp
Ghee-6tbsp
Cardamom powder-1tsp
Sliced almonds-21tbsp
Chironji (saraparupu)-1tsp
Method
Heat ghee in a non stick pan fry the oats till light brown & gives a good aroma.Pour the milkmaid ,cardamom powder & milk.Stir it in low heat till it leaves the sided of the pan.Add the nuts & pour it on a greased plate or aluminium foil.Cool & cut into desired shapes.
Tips
This dish has very mild sweet, if you want more sweet add extra 3tsps of sugar.This is a soft & a bit sticky burfi.
