Angaya Podi - Traditional Herb Powders / Medicinal Powders

Angaya Podi
Ingredients
Sundaikai vathal / Dry Turkey Berry - 2 tbsp
Dry Manathakali vathal / Dry Black Night shade- 2 tbsp
Dry Neem flowers / Vepampoo - 2 tbsp
Coriander seeds/dhania - 1 & 1/2 tbsp
Pepper - 1 tsp
Jeera/Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
Chukku/Dry ginger powder - 1 tsp
Thur dal - 1 tsp
Ajwain/Omam - 1/2 tsp
Arisi thipli - 6
Curry leaves few
Salt to taste
Hing - 1/2 tsp

Method
Dry roast all the ingredients separately till light brown.Switch off the stove add ginger,salt and hing to the hot pan and just give a mix and transfer to a plate.Do not burn them.
Cool completely and dry grind everything to a fine powder.Store it in a clean dry jar.
Take a tsp of this powder add some ghee mix it with hot rice and enjoy.

Garlic Hair Dye / Natural Hair Dye using Garlic Skin / How To Make Garlic Peel Hair Dye / Homemade Hair Dye

Ingredients
Garlic skin
Olive oil
( There is no measurement for this recipe)
Method
Take a pan and dry roast the garlic skin still black.
Cool and dry grind to a fine powder,sieve the powder.
Put this powder in a jar add olive oil till it forms a smooth paste.
Cover and keep it in dark place for 1 week and then use.
Do not keep it in sun or fridge.
How to use?
Use a brush or cotton and apply it to your grey hair as you apply your regular dye.
Leave it for 2 or 3 hours and wash your hair.( Do not use shampoo at least for a day).
Keeping the dye longer gives better result. ( Applied for 1 day and washed the next day)

Gulkand Recipe / Homemade Gulkhand / Rose Petal Jam / Rose Petal Preserve / - How To Make Gulkand At Home

Ingredients
Fresh Rose petals - 2 cups packed
( I used light pinkish red and pink variety )
Sugar - 2 cups
Honey - 1/2 cup
Cardamom - 2
( Powder only the seeds)
Method
Wash the rose petals and pat them dry.
Chop or pulse the petals to a coarse mixture.
Take a clean dry bottle place some petals then sprinkle the sugar repeat till you finish.
Close the bottle with a lid and keep it in sunlight.
Mix the gulkand with a clean wooden spoon once in 2 days.
After 7 to 10 days you will see the mixture is in brown colour and almost a jam consistency
Mix the honey and keep it for a day in sunlight.
Lastly add the cardamom powder mix and store it in fridge.
Note:
a) For quicker version just cook the whole mixture on stove top till it reaches to jam consistency.Cool and store it in fridge.
b) Usually pink roses ( Damask Rose in English or Pannir Rose in Tamil ) are used for making Gulkand.
c) There are lots of health benefits of having Gulkand its an Ayurvedic tonic,helps to remove toxins from body and purifies blood and many more.

Homemade Aloe Vera Oil / Prepare Aloe Vera Oil At Home / Sothu Kathalai Yennai

Ingredients
Fresh Aloe Vera Leaf - 3 ( I got 1 cup of smooth gel )
( Wash the leaf wipe it with a clean cloth.Slit the leaf into half,gently scoop out the gel from the leaf.
Discard the peel,mash the flesh with a spoon or blend it in a mixi to get a smooth gel.
Measure the gel & take the same quantity of coconut oil )
Coconut oil - 1 cup
Method
Take a heavy pan add the gel and boil in medium low flame for 3 minutes.
Now add the coconut oil & boil till all the water has completely evaporated from the mixture.
This may take around 10 minutes,frequently keep mixing to make sure the gel doesn't burn.
The best way to know if your oil is ready is when the popping sound has stopped from the oil & the colour has changed to light honey colour.
Switch off the stove,cool the oil & filter it into a clean glass jar.

Benefits
This oil has lots of healing properties,used in different forms for personal use,like for body massage,removes stretch marks,controls hair fall,etc

Ingredients
Dry ginger powder / Sukku - 1/4 cup
Grated jaggery / Vellam- 1/4 cup
Honey - 1 tsp
Ghee - 2 tsp
Method
Mix all above ingredients together in a bowl.
Make small balls & store it in an airtight container.
A best medicine for digestion.

Deepavali Marundhu / Deewali Marundhu / Homemade Deepavali Legiyam / Deepawali Lehiyam

Deepawali Marundhu
Ingredients soaked in warm water for 30 minutes
Whole pepper-2tsp
Cumin/Jeera-2tsp
Dry ginger powder/sukku-2tsp
Cardamom-4
Omam/Ajwain-5tsp
Coriander seeds-2tsp
Arisi thippili - 2
Kandan thippili - 1 small stick
Hing-1/2tsp
Turmeric powder-1/4tsp
Other ingredients
Jaggery-1 cup
(Jaggery should be same quantity as the ground paste,i got 1 cup of the ground paste so i used i cup of jaggery)
Honey-1tsp
Ghee-1/4 cup
Sesame oil-1tbsp
Method
Grind the above ingredients to a very smooth paste,measure it & take the same quantity of jaggery.
Melt the jaggery in a bowl,filter to remove any impurities.Pour the jaggery in a pan add the ground paste & cook in medium low flame till it gets thick.
Now slowly add the ghee & oil in intervals,till everything is absorbed & leaves the sides of the pan.
Cook till the paste comes to a jam consistency.
Switch off the stove mix in the honey,cool & store it in a clean jar in fridge.
Note:
a)You can also dry roast & powder the ingredients instead of wet grinding.
b) Have a small ball of marundhu its very good for digestion.
