  5. Birmingham, Alabama, isn't as big or as busy as Atlanta, but when it comes to food and dining, the "Magic City" holds its own against Georgia's capital city and its huge metropolitan area. Birmingham is two hours west of Atlanta along I-20. With the city's growing restaurant scene, it's getting harder and harder to find a bad restaurant here these days. The hardest part is deciding where to eat in and around Birmingham, whether you want a meat and three, a fancy dinner with cocktails, or a casual counter-service spot with burgers and sandwiches. You also have to plan ahead and get there at the right time to make sure you get a seat.
